The Colfax Vikings softball team has gotten off to a hot start in the 2024 season, owning a perfect undefeated conference record through the first week of May. While they have been strong offensively at the plate, it has been Laikyn Beyer who has led the team in the pitching department.
The sophomore has been a workhorse for the Vikings defense this season, leading the Colfax team in just about every pitching category. As a matter of fact, Beyer is one of just two pitchers that have been used throughout the season, throwing for over 73 innings on the year through 15 appearances.
In her outings, she has been solid, posting an ERA of 2.10 with 97 strikeouts and 12 complete games. In addition, her 13 wins have her ranked among the top pitchers in Wisconsin in that category at the Division Four level.
Speaking of Division Four, according to a statewide coaches poll, Beyer and her Colfax Vikings squad currently sit in the top 10 teams in all of D4. With a 13-2 record, and strong contributors on both defense and offense, it is clear to see why they have earned the respect of area coaches.
In addition to pitching prowess, the bats have remained productive throughout the season. Sophomore Brynn Sikora has been electric at the plate, owning a batting average of .537 with six homers and 25 RBI. Just behind her has been Junior Hannah Peterson with 24 RBI, and a batting average of .465. In total, 10 batters in this Colfax lineup sit over the .300 average mark, which has translated to success on the basepaths and tallies in the ‘win’ column.
With only a few weeks left in the regular season, the Vikings will look to finish off the year strong while gearing up for playoffs. Before heading to the postseason, they will look to capture the Dunn St. Croix Conference title, a feat that has alluded them for the past two decades.
With plenty of young talent on this squad, the Colfax Vikings have the tools for what they hope could be the foundation of a solid program for years to come. For now, they will focus on finishing out their regular season strong.
